In 146 B.C.E., Carthage has been destroyed by Rome for wealth, land, and slaves in the third punic war.
Carthage, was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Now it’s dust thanks to general Scipio Africanus, the famed general, notably for his winning of the second Punic War against Hannibal. The third Punic War, however, was something else. It was more of a set up war than a random dispute. Rome set the stage for a conflict then crushed Carthage to the ground.
After the “war” was over, Rome killed almost everyone in Carthage and took the rest as slaves into Rome. The roman army ransacked the city, then burned it. The romans used Carthage as an example of what would happen to a civilization if they resisted Rome. Another way of making this happen was having the soldiers spread salt in the ruins so that nothing could grow there.
